Which oil should I take C60 in?
Is there any difference in the oils?
The answer to that question is yes.
Commercially available carbon 60 is sold in a number of different oils, principally olive, coconut (MCT - medium chain triglycerides), avocado and sunflower oils but there are plenty of others. Here at C60inOliveOil.com we also provide it in; hemp seed, pumpkin seed and black seed oils.
C60 is slightly soluble in all of these oils, at around 80mg per 100ml. It is less for coconut oil with our experiments showing around 54mg of pure C60 will dissolve in 100ml of MCT oil. Having the buckyballs dissolve in the oil is important as this allows them to pass from your intestines into your blood and from there into all the cells of your body.
All of the oils here at C60inOliveOil.com are chosen additionally for how they can support your health. The original research, published in 2012 by Baati et al, was undertaken using C60 dissolved in extra virgin olive oil and prolonged the life of the test group by well over 90%. However, these are the other benefits of the oils used.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is central to the Mediterranean diet and the OliveOilTimes.com website lists 5 of the reasons why.
- Antioxidants - polyphenols are present in olive oil and are are able to neutralise free radicals.
- Oleocanthal - a specific polyphenol and the cause of most of the peppery flavour to olive oil. The strong peppery taste is something people notice about our C60 in extra virgin Spanish olive oil.
- Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) - used to increase the elasticity of cell membranes and so protect against disease.
- Vitamin E - a fat soluble antioxidant widely used in skin creams.
- Vitamin K - necessary for coagulation and for processes that involve the fixation of calcium in the body.
Here's a short list of the many things it does to support health.
- Reduces risk of type 2 diabetes
- Keeps the heart young
- Fights osteoporosis
- May protect from depression
- Found to help prevent skin cancer
Coconut Oil
Most carbon 60 in coconut oil is sold in refined coconut oil as it is liquid at room temperature. Unrefined coconut oil is solid at room temperature, unless you live where the temperature is above 24oC/76oF. We made C60 as an experiment in extra virgin coconut, but the problem is that in many countries it will be solid in winter. This would make it difficult to take unless you want to spread it on bread! Let us know if you would like some.
The refining process removes longer chain fatty acids, leaving medium chain fatty acids behind. It is MCT oil (medium chain triglyceride). These shorter carbon chain fatty acids mean the oil is liquid. Medium chain fatty acids are caproic acid (C6), caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10) and can be found in different proportions depending on the refining process.
MCT oil is very popular with people who follow a ketogenic diet.
Coconut oil contains, amongst other things.
- Vitamin E - a fat soluble antioxidant widely used in skin creams
- Vitamin K - necessary for coagulation and for processes that involve the fixation of calcium in the body
- Caprylic acid - potent antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory substance
Avocado Oil
The avocado is an unusual fruit and unlike most fruits, it's rich in healthy fats.
In avocado oil you can find.
- Lutein - a carotenoid found as a colour pigment in the human eye
- Oleic acid - a common monounsaturated fat associated with decreased (LDL) cholesterol, and possibly increasing (HDL) cholesterol.
- Vitamin A - helps form and maintain healthy teeth, skeletal and soft tissue and produces the pigments in the retina of the eye
- Vitamin E - a fat soluble antioxidant widely used in skin creams
- Vitamin D - helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body
Here's a short list of how avocado oil can support health.
- Reduces cholesterol and improves heart health
- Enhances the absorption of important nutrients
- May reduce symptoms of arthritis
- May help prevent gum disease
- Improves skin and enhances wound healing
Hemp Seed Oil
There is often confusion over hemp seed oil and CBD oil, but they are different and it comes down to the quantities of cannabinoids present. Hemp grown for seeds for oil extraction have low levels of the cannabinoids CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in the oil. CBD oil has higher levels of CBD but low levels of THC, while cannabis contains high levels of THC. They all come from the same family of plants but the levels of the psychoactive cannabinoids varies. You are not going to get high from taking hemp seed oil but it might just make you healthier.
Two of the most important components of hemp seed oil are;
- Linoleic acid (omega-6) - help stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health
- Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) - can lower elevated triglyceride levels
Hemp seed oil is very healthy and has been used as a food and medicine in China for at least 3,000 years and no wonder as there is a long list of benefits from taking it.
- Protect the brain against inflammation

- Vitamin E - a fat soluble antioxidant widely used in skin creams
- Potassium - helps regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals
The pumpkin seeds are often roasted before the oil is extracted and this gives the oil a nutty flavour. The benefits of taking the oil are extensive.
